Racial Identity Development and Relational Theory: The Case of Black Women in White Communities

Abstract:
This paper (and audio tape) examines the connection between relational theory and racial identity development. Both theories are used to understand the experiences of black women growing up in predominantly white communities. The implications of racial identity development theory for the development of mutuality between black and white women are considered.
