Title:
Movement in Therapy: Honoring the "Strategies of Disconnection"
Author(s):
Jean Baker Miller, Irene P. Stiver
Abstract:
The paradox of connections/disconnections is at the core of the process of therapy, which is characterized by a series of connections, disconnections, and new connections. When therapists are empathetic with both sides of the connections/disconnections paradox, they can better understand how terrifying it is for people to relinquish their strategies of avoiding connections and express their desire for connections.
