December 19, 1995

Media Services (formerly AudioVisual Services) now has a page on the Wellesley College CWIS! Information is available on various topics. This includes media resources, what equipment is available, who to contact for equipment and network maintenance, and information on media technology support for special events. To reach this page, choose Campus Information, Administration and Campus Services, Media Services/IS.

The Purchasing Program has a new page on the CWIS, which presents detailed information on Wellesley College's purchasing policy. It also provides how-to information for emergency purchasing, ordering office supplies and stationary, and how to view a transaction on Banner. To get to this page, choose Campus Information, Administration and Campus Services, Purchasing.

The PERSEUS PROJECT, a major collection of interactive sources and studies on ancient Greece has been added to Internet Resources for Greek & Latin and Classical Civilization. You can reach the on-line version from the Internet Resources for Greek & Latin and Classical Civilization. Otherwise, you can also find it in Wellesley's copy of the CD-ROM version (which has gained a considerable scholarly reputation). The CD-ROM is shelved in the Art Library.

The Feminist Majority Foundation and Women's Wire pages can now be reached from the Women's Studies page of Internet Resources. The Spanish Internet Resources page has been updated to include Proceso, the Mexican political weekly magazine. To reach any of these pages, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources, Academic Departments and Programs, and then pick the appropriate department.

November 27, 1995

Special Collections has just opened up an exhibit on the CWIS called "Women in the Book Arts: a Selection." This exhibit looks in detail at the work of eight artists in the field of book arts, and boasts beautiful graphics of their work as well as interviews with the the artists themselves. To get to this new exhibit, choose Campus Information, Online Exhibits, Women in the Book Arts: A Selection; or, choose Campus Information, Academic Departments and Programs, Library Services/IS, Exhibit.

There are also updated Internet Resources for Research in the fields of Music, German, Art History, and Africana Studies. The Music page has new links to jazz, Gregorian chant, and opera pages as well as to new libraries and research centers. The Africana Studies page has information on individual countries, policy anaylsis, and links that focus on African Americans, such as the Black Information Network, and archives of music and culture. There is a new Internet Resources for Research page for Architecture as well. To get to these pages, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources, Academic Departments and Programs, and then pick the appropriate department.

November 3, 1995

More faculty publications listings have been added to the CWIS. If you're interested in finding out what a faculty member has published within the last two years, go to Campus Information, Academic Departments and Programs, Faculty Publications and Performances 1993-94 and 1994-95.

The Research Resources page has been updated. It now includes the Electronic Journals catalog, which acts as a WWW "virtual library" site for on-line journals. Research Resources also includes a link to the On-line Books page, which contains an index of free English-language texts, and pointers to archives of texts in all languages. Choose Reseach Resources, then either Electronic Journals or On-line Books.

New Internet Resources for Research pages have been created for the departments of Psychobiology and Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology. If you're searching for on-line material and references for either of these topics, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, Academic Departments and Programs, then either Pschobiology or Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology.

The Parents' Weekend schedule has been put onto the CWIS. Not sure what you want to do, or what group or panel to take your parents to see? Check out your options on the CWIS! The Parents' Weekend schedule can be found by choosing Campus Information, Schedules Announcements and Calendars, Parents's Weekend 1995 schedule.

The Internet Research Resources for Musems has been updated to The Internet Research Resources for Musems has been updated to include Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History. This web site has all sorts of information about nature and wildlife, ranging from bats to dinosaurs to botanical links. To get to this page, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, For Museums.

Internet Resources for Legal Studies has also been updated to include links to the House of Representatives, a site for human rights, and a page for US law schools. To get to this page, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, Academic Departments and Programs, Legal Studies.

The Reference Collection has been updated to include a link to MLA-style documentation for electronic references. Did you get documentation for a paper, or references for your thesis on the Internet? The MLA-style reference page will tell you how to properly footnote and cite these sources. To get to this page, choose Research Resources, the Reference Collection, MLA-Style Citation of Electronic Sources.

The Reference Collection has also been updated to include a link to the Federal Express home page. Aside from information about FedEx's services, it also allows you to track a package on-line. To reach this page, choose Research Resources, Reference Collection.

A new Media In the Library page has been added to Library Services. It provides information about the library's video and audio collections, and how they can be searched in the computer catalog. To get to the Library Media Services page, choose Research Resources, Library Services, Media Resources.

A page for Educational Resources and Development for faculty has been added to the CWIS. On this page, you can find links for information about travel grants, funding for experimental courses, and short-term Quick-Fix grants for instructional needs. To reach the Educational Research and Development page, choose Campus Information, Academic Departments and Programs, Educational Resources and Development.

There are new Internet Resources for Research in the fields of Chinese, English, Anthropology, Women's Studies, Writing, and Sociology. To reach these handy web sources of links and sites about different subjects, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, Academic Departments and Programs, and then choose the appropriate department.

There is a beautiful new brochure from the Special Collections at Clapp Library now up on the CWIS! It features images of highlights from many of the different collections, as well as descriptions of each collection's contents and numbers of books. To reach the Special Collections brochure, choose Campus Information, Academic Departments and Programs, Library Services, Special Collections.

The Library Preservation Program also has a new page on the CWIS. It features cartoons designed and drawn by Wellesley students about taking proper care of library books. To reach this page, choose Campus Information , Academic Departments and Programs, Library Services, Preservation Program Cartoons.

The Internet Resources for Government Documents page has been updated. It now includes links to state documents via MAGNET and international affairs resources. To reach this page, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, Government Documents.

Also, the Internet Resources for Italian, International Relations, English, and American Studies have been updated. Choose Research Resources, Internet Resources for Research, Academic Departments and Programs, and then choose the appropriate department.

Project MUSE is an experiment in electronic journal publishing, produced by Johns Hopkins University. The Library's subscription to it allows access not only to the current issues of Project MUSE, but also to a growing list of journals in the humanities and social sciences. To reach Project MUSE, choose Research Resources, Project MUSE. The Computer Museum and the Museum of Science have been added to the Internet Resources For Research. To take virtual tours of the museums, learn more about their exhibits, get directions to them, and find out all sorts of information about computers or science, choose Research Resources, Internet Resources For Research, Internet Resources for Museums.

Got questions about the new Wellesley OneCard (ID card) system? Information on how the card works, what to do if you lose your card, and what the card can be used for can now be found on the CWIS. Choose Campus Information, Administration and Campus Services, ID Cards.

The Wellesley College Library home page has been updated. To check out the new features and its new look, choose Campus Information, Academic Departments and Services, Library Services.

The Davis Museum has opened another special exhibition on the Wellesley CWIS. From the Studio: New Work by Art Department Faculty features images of the latest creations of the Wellesley art faculty which are currently on display in the Davis Museum. Along with the images, the From the Studio exhibit on the CWIS also contains both text and QuickTime movie interviews with the faculty who have work on exhibition, as well as catalog information on the works shown in the museum. For students who are in language classes, the Language Lab now has a page on the CWIS! You can look up the tapes you need to use for your language lab, find out if they are copyable, and how long the tapes are. Just go to Campus Information, Academic Departments and Services, Language Lab.

There is also a new Collins Cinema page on the CWIS, which includes information about the equipment in the theater and the contact information in order to arrange an event there. To reach the Collins Cinema page, choose Campus Information, Administration and Campus Services, Collins Cinema.

Finally, there are new Internet Resource pages for the Physics and Peace Studies departments, as well as additions to the Internet Resources for Astronomy, Biology, and Russian.
