a la Mode was founded in 1999 by alumnae Pui Yan Li and Stella Chow. Noticing that Wellesley College did not have an organization that catered to those interested in the fashion and design industry, they started Wellesley College's first fashion and design organization. a la Mode has come a long way since its early beginnings. As the club has increased the quality, range, and number of its events, it is ever apparent that a la Mode's success truly relies on the blooming creativity of the Wellesley students involved in the organization.
Although a la Mode is held together by a core group of Executive Board Members, the organization is open to any Wellesley student, regardless of design experience. Our goal is to provide a comfortable and accepting place for students to express their creativity and their passion for fashion. We try to foster an awareness of fashion and design by offering students the opportunity to learn, experiment, and share their knowledge.
a la Mode's two annual events are the "Dress for Success"
CWS fashion show in the fall, and the Expose fashion show
in the spring. We also hold additional events each semester such as lectures and field
trips. Two of our most notable recent events were a lecture by Amy Fine Collins, specialty
correspondent for Vanity Fair, and a field trip to Paris Collections 2006, a fashion exhibit
at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
