Daily Prayers
Prayer is one of the five pillars of Islam. There are five daily
obligatory prayers for Muslims at different times of the day. The
earliest prayer, known as Fajr , is said before sunrise.
This is followed by the Duhr prayer, at noon. The early
evening begins with the Asr prayer, and as the sun sets,
the Maghrib prayer is said. During the night, before
going to bed, Muslims pray the Isha prayer.

Friday Prayers
The Duhr (afternoon) prayer is a special one for Muslims,
because they gather together as a community pray in a congregation.
This is considered sunnah, which is the tradition of
the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Congregational prayers are held in Wellesley for the benefit of
the Muslim students on campus. Every Friday, the students gather
in the Al-Muslimat Prayer
Room. In preparation of the Friday prayer, one of the students
prepares a small talk or Khatira about any practical
issue pertaining to the daily spiritual life of Muslims.
Halaqas
Halaqas are religious study circles, where people gather together
to discuss the standing of Islam on some topic, in light of the
Quran and Sunnah. Halaqas are held weekly in Wellesley
in the Al-Muslimat prayer room. The discussion is led by the Al-Muslimat
advisor, Nancy Khalil, and are attended by a number of students,
who participate in the discussion. Some of the topics that have
been addressed in Halaqas include discussions about the
love of God for mankind and the love of mankind for God, preparing
for Ramadan , permissible interactions with the opposite
sex, and a thorough study of Surah Yousuf , from the Holy
Quran.
Halaqas for this semester are held on Fridays at 4:15 pm in
the Al-Muslimat prayer room. |
