Urgent Actions

One of the most important aspects of the Amnesty International Organization are Urgent Actions. Amnesty International's Urgent Action Network provides an effective and rapid response to urgent situations involving prisoners of conscience, detainees, and other threatened individuals. Functioning much like an emergency room staff in a hospital, members of the Urgent Action Network in 90 countries compose and send telegrams, letters, e-mails, and faxes to many government officials who are in a position to ensure the safety and fair treatment of those whom AI seeks to protect. Sample Urgent Action

Your Excellency,

I am writing to express my concern for the safety of Azad Rasouli, Abu Bakr Bapiri, Khezer Sa'idnezhad, Mohammad Saleh Kukashireh, Khaled Shirzad, Abu Bakr Tikan Tapeh, Avat Qorayshi, MohammadAmin Salimian, Sa'adollah Soltanian, Khezer Mouloudi, Rezgar Salimian, Dara Qorayshi, Ribvar Saliman, Kamel Salimian, and dozens of other, reportedly arrested on March 19 and 20 and now believed to be held incommunicado. I seek assurance that the men listed above, and the dozens of others, are not being tortured or ill-treated. I call on the authorities to release these men immediately, unless they are to be promptly charged with a recognizably criminal offense. I also call for these men to be given immediate access to lawyers, their families, interpreters and any medical treatment they may need. Thank you.
