About (BC)^2
Goals
The Biological Chemistry and Biology Club of Wellesley College aims to facilitate the Wellesley College community in pursuing its member's interests in biology and Biochemistry. We hope to accomplish this in four ways.
First, we aim to establish a supportive network among the students
of Wellesley College.
Second, we try to be a forum in which students may meet and interact
with our wonderful faculty who knows and has much experience in the areas of
Biology and Biochemistry.
Third, our club will try to become more involved in the scientific
community of the greater Boston area.
Fourth, we hope to contribute to making the areas of Biology and
Biochemistry enjoyable to the Wellesley College community through interesting
lectures and many programs.

Membership
As a member you would be able to take an active part in the Wellesley College Community. You can use (BC)^2 as forum through which you express ideas or just have fun.
There is a membership requirement. You must attend at least half of all general meetings
and attend at least one of the events we are sponsoring. If you are attending an event,
let an officer know that you have attended at the event. We do keep strict records
and present a certificate of membership at the end of the year.
Meetings
Meetings are meant to be every two weeks. Due to holidays and other (BC)^2 outings, some of the meetings are postponed to other weeks. Please watch our First Class conference and the news section of this website for our meeting dates.Activities
We have divided the description of previous activities or future endeavors into the four goals we have stated above.-
Purpose I: Supportive Network among Students
- Biology and Biochemistry Club meetings: Attend our meetings to get to know your peers who are interested in Biology and/or Biochemistry just like you.
- Social Events: This really up to the group. But in the past we have planned movie nights (Finding Nemo), study groups and making ice cream with liquid nitrogen.
- Website: We hope to keep in contact with (BC)^2 alumnae through a website.
- Dessert Series: This has been one of our most constant activities. We invite a professor in the Biological Sciences or Biochemistry Department to come talk to us about their experience in science and life in general. We also provide scrumptious dessert, of course!
- Field Trips: We've often asked our professors to be chaperon for field trips. In the past we have gone to the Omni Theater in the Museum of Science and the New England Aquarium. We have also visited a sub company of Genzyme, from which we learned a lot about the drug research industry and transgenic goats.
- Take more interest in what is going on in other schools and post on conference to attend lectures in other schools in the Greater Boston area.
- Contact officers from other schools' clubs and ask to let us know when fun things are happening.
- Lectures
- Social Events- Any ideas anyone? Laser tag in the Science Center?
- Fundraisers: This is an essential part of our club. Although we do get funding from the Biological Sciences and Biochemistry departments and SOFC, we can always do more with money in our accounts.
- Panels: Upperclassmen who went abroad as Wellesley College Science majors are asked to come tell us how they did it and what it was like.
-
In the past, we haven't really accomplished this. But our general goals is to...
