I. Roll Call/Agenda

II. Old Business

Meri Smith, Parliamentarian: We need to vote on 2 items of business. We’re going to do an online vote since this is our last senate of the semester. Take these two items back to your constituency tomorrow night: SCBT-Student Life representatives Lindsey Silver and Eleanor Blume and the two changes to the SOFC constitution. Also, conduct a straw poll about Legenda and send information to yearbook@wellesley.edu or through campus mail to Legenda.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: This is your last item of business for the semester so get this done ASAP and enjoy the rest of the semester.

III. New Business

None.

IV. Open Discussion

Charlene Liu, SPEC Chair: SPEC took responsibility and reviewed last year’s minutes and looked for all the constitutional changes that were voted on and passed last year. We compiled this list by looking at the minutes and agendas from last year. We picked out the minutes that included constitutional changes, including SOFC, SPEC, SOAC, etc. We then had more SPECsters look over them and sent another group back to archives to make sure that we didn’t miss anything.

Currently we have implemented the changes to the CG Constitution:

See attachments for list.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: Just for clarification- earlier in the semester when I said that constitutional changes were necessary, I wasn’t referring to these. These changes that were voted on and approved last year. Everything that Charlene and SPEC looked at isn’t something we need to vote on since they were approved last year. I urge you to read the completed constitution over break and it will then reflect the current CG. We’ll then look to see if we need to make more changes for this year.

Mikaela Hagen, Severance: Why weren’t these implemented last year? Was there a problem?

Charlene Liu, SPEC Chair: They were implemented in practice, it was just never written in.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: We also had trouble looking at the minutes. SPEC had to go to archives and get minutes and constitution. We had to piece the changes together.

Thank you so much Charlene and SPEC!

Lindsey Boylan, Student Bursar: Remember to bring constitutional changes back to your constituencies. Remember the next lectures funding deadline which has been extended to this Thursday because the first deadline was right before Thanksgiving and we only got 2 applications.

Nanki Marwah, Freeman: How many Lectures Funding deadlines are in the spring semester?

Lindsey Boylan, Student Bursar: Two for sure but it’s flexible.

Kelly O’Connor, Director of Student Activities: When will you vote on the applications since the deadline was moved?

Lindsey Boylan, Student Bursar: I’ll have to talk to Meri about that. We may vote online and will make sure the list is publicized.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: Will Roshni now present a transportation liaison update?

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison to Senate: Post this handout on your senate board. This is a pick-up site, not a drop-off. This was brought up last year. At the beginning of the fall I was looking at getting a new quad/tower full stop. That proved difficult because it’s an unsafe place for pick-ups and drop-offs. I walked around with one of the officers from Campus Police looking for potential stops and we found this spot next to Munger Meadow.

The pick-up will be at the fork in the path from Munger Meadow. You will drop off where the drop off is now near the physical plant.

We considered a pick-up near the Beebe path and other places around that area, but because of snow banks in the winter we chose this Munger Meadow spot.

We couldn’t have a pick-up near the physical plant because of the slope. We don’t want to put anyone’s safety in danger, so enforce these pick-ups and drop-offs to ensure everyone’s safety.

This will start next semester in the spring.

Nanki Marwah, Freeman: What will happen when the campus center opens?

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison: We aren’t sure, but the bus may stop and pick-up in front of alumnae hall. It’s being worked out. If you have feedback on that please let me know so I can let Peter Eastment know.

Alex Kim, CG Vice President: There will be an electronic ticker in the Campus Center that will keep us updated on the location and timing of buses.

Melanie Carter, Ethos: Will this change at peak times?

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison: The chapel stop is still a stop. I’m not sure if I understand your question. The population will now be divided. Half will go to Chapel some will go to Munger. This will not change with peak times.

Motion to extend time to accommodate speakers and close speakers list.
Motion carries.

Nanki Marwah, Freeman: We have now made accommodations for Quad and Tower people, what about those on the East Side?

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison: We thought the Chapel thought was servicing the East Side.

Nanki Marwah, Freeman: It’s the same distance from Tower.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: There was conversation in Campus Center Building Committee meetings that the transportation will change when the building opens. There may be an East Side stop and one at the campus center.

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison: There’s all kinds of room for discussion. Get feedback to me.

Kahini Ranade, Munger: When it stops at Munger Meadow it won’t wait if no one is there, right? Will traffic wait behind the bus when they are picking up?

Roshni Kapadia, Transportation Liaison: Right, it won’t wait if no one is there. Yes, the traffic will wait.

Jamie Bernthal, CG President: Please, please send feedback to Roshni. Post this to your senate boards!

Now it’s time for Dean’s corner!

V. Dean’s Corner

Michelle Lepore, Associate Dean of Students : I just wanted to let you know that I wasn’t able to meet with Peter Eastment yes, but Kris Niendorf and I are meeting with him on Friday about ResHall DVDs and TVs.

You should see more fun activities—yoga, mini-massages—in ResHalls. This is from the Reducing Stress/Enhancing Learning committees. We still need senators for those subcommittees.

Kim Goff-Crews, Dean of Students: President Walsh really enjoyed her conversation with you all at last week’s senate. Andy Shennan loves getting grilled at Senate. Thank you for that. Administrators love coming here.

I also recognize that this is your last senate of the semester and we want you to take care of yourselves and relax. We’re here to support you.

We’re also prepping your parents for your return home. We’re going to do a section for parents on our website about coming home for the holidays. We were going to tell them to give you money but we thought it was a bit much. We also encouraged them not to pressure you about grades, especially because of the grading policy changes.

Michelle Lepore: If you don’t have internet access at home, print out a copy and take it home.

Kim Goff-Crews: Thank you and congratulations for a wonderful semester. I can’t wait to see you bright and cheery in February.

Lindsey Silver, Beebe: When you mentioned the meeting with Peter Eastment what was that about?

Michelle Lepore: We noticed with Uniquely Compelling applications a need in ResHalls about TVs with built-in DVDs. We are looking at that replacement program. Computers are replaced regularly and we just wanted to know what the replacement schedule is for TVs, if there is one.

Clara Peterson, Bates: Is there a replacement for printers as well? Maybe double-sided one?

Michelle Lepore: We’ll look into that.

VI. Announcements/Adjourn

Star Senator: Congratulations Star Senator Katie Landise ’06! Katie, a second-year Communications Committee senator from Kansas, is this week’s Senator of the Week. She consistently volunteers to take on CG projects above and beyond the expected. Each week, Katie types the announcements after Senate to be included with the minutes. She designed the interlocking CG logo that Senate voted on to be used on our merchandise. Additionally, Katie’s creative ideas and enthusiasm in the Communications Committee inspire the committee. For example, she led an informative computer training session for the Communications Committee so that publicists could learn to use Fireworks, a graphics design program. From helping to plan the Severance Fun Lunches to teaching us how to save the whales and pandas, Katie encourages a positive and fun atmosphere for us all! Congratulations Katie!
