Dance Collective was founded in 1999 by Emily Brouwer '02 and
Lauren Liberman '02. Feeling that there was limited dance opportunity at
Wellesley College, especially with regard to modern dance, they took the
initiative to
create another outlet for dance expression, and so they formed "Dance
Collective".
This student-run organization is dedicated to bringing
modern dance to the Wellesley College community. It is open to all students
and faculty
members and no experience is necessary, only a love of dance and the desire
and dedication to be part of a wonderful group. Focus is placed upon student
choreography, improvisation (specifically contact improv), and expression.
Dance Collective had their first performance on April 20, 2000, which incorporated
four pieces and several improvisations that made use of audience participation.
The dance group has continued to grow and has a performance
each semester. The group has also performed in a number of on-campus
events.
