About the Team
Here's a basic overview of what the team does and what we require of our members:
Riding: We each lesson once a week. Lessons are held at Rising Star Equestrian Center in Medway, MA. Lessoning takes a half hour to drive out, 2 hours at the barn, and a half hour to drive back, so 3 hours total. We buy lessons in packs of 10, for $450. This is usually enough to last for show season, although we encourage members to ride year round.
Showing: We have roughly 5 shows per semester (on weekends), and we like for all our riders to attend all of them if possible. We also host a show, and attendance is required at both the setup day and the show. We show in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), and the way it works is that we go to shows, watch the horses warm up, get assigned a horse, and ride that horse in our classes. New riders are placed in a division based on a questionaire concerning previous riding and competition experience.
Other information: We require that members participate in fundraising. We usually have a couple of organized fundraisers throughout the semester, and also have some merchandise that members can sell on their own. All riders are also required to either go to a workout in the gym once a week (about 45 minutes long), or, if they prefer, take a second lesson. The team meets Sunday nights at 7.
