Celebrate the end of the school year with the Economics Department and ESA on the last day of classes May 9, 2007. The event will be held in the Economics Department lounge from 4:30-5:30pm. Refreshments and desserts will be served (chocolate fountain!).

Economics Student Association Tea
The ESA and the Economics Department hosted the first 2007 Economics Tea on February 28th. This well-attended event allowed students and faculty to chat and enjoy a late afternoon snack.
Brown Bag Lunch with Professor David Lindauer
Professor Lindauer explained to the lunchtime crowd the history of twenty-three years of The Economics of Development a textbook that he currently co-authors. He spoke of how the field of developmental economics was studied twenty-three years ago and how it will be seen in the future. While past economists were more concerned with the difference between theoretical capital and communist markets and increasing the quantity of education in the developing world, current economists can cite actual development miracles and are looking at quality goals for education.

At the first Economic Alumnae Panel, prominent Wellesley Alumnae from various fields discussed their experiences. There were two panels with Victoria Barret, Eileen Kaufman, and Vaidehi Shah speaking in the first hour, and Liane Pelletier and Amita Rao speaking in the second after a brief break.

Victoria Barret, an award winning journalist and an Associate Editor for Forbes Magazine
Eileen Kaufman, the Executive Director of Social Accountability International (SAI), an organization to promote human rights for workers around the world
Liane Pelletier, the CEO, President, and Chair of the Board of Directors of Alaska Communications Systems (ACS).
Amita Rao, a Technical Recruiter of the Bluewolf Group, an enterprise consulting company
Vaidehi Shah, a Senior Associate of The Carlyle Group, focusing on U.S. buyout opportunities in the telecom and media sectors.
On Thursday, April 05, 2007 ESA hosted a lecture by Jay Shimshack about "Information Provision as Environmental Policy: Does it Work?." He spoke of the effectiveness of environmental policies which involved the distribution of information pamphlets and warnings.
Jay Shimshack is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Tufts University, and more information on him can be found here.
The Economic Student Association's General Body Meeting was held at 5:45 pm on Tuesday, April 10th. Information for the upcoming elections were discussed.
The ESA E-Board elections were held on April 17, 2007. Officers were be elected for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year term. Check "Who Are We" for updated positions.
The ESA Fundraiser/ Mikes Pastries and Home-Made Cookies
The ESA fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, 2007. ESA will be selling Mike's Pastries along with home-made chocolate chip and M&M cookies on campus.
Informal Luncheon with Economics Professors
In an effort to further familiarize the students with the Economics Department, ESA hosted an informal luncheon with one of the professors in the department, Professor Butcher, at 12:30-1:30pm in the Bates Dining Hall (McAfee side).
