Who We Are
The Borough of Felding is a part of an organization known as the
Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a worldwide organization that
has dedicated itself to recreating history before the year 1600. However,
note the word "Creative" in the name. There have been a few changes made,
including the addition of modern plumbing, medicine, and religious tolerance.
For a detailed description of how our Borough is governed, please view our Constitution.
Felding is contained within the boundaries of the Barony of Carolingia, which is itself a part of the Kingdom of the East. Carolingia is loosely defined in the rolls of the East Kingdom as the "Greater Boston Area," but as everyone in Carolingia knows, "Carolingia status mentis est," making us perhaps the largest Barony in the world, given the migratorial instincts of the college students who are members of the Boroughs. (For those of you who don't speak Latin, it means, "Carolingia is a state of mind.")

Current
Membership
The Borough of Felding (also known as the Felding Medieval Society) is open
to all students, faculty, and staff members of Wellesley College. Membership
fluctuates as students graduate and go on leave, but a current list can be
found here.
Officers
Felding has four elected officers: Provost, Steward, Exchequer, and Historian.
Most of us are listed in the Liber and are best reached by email, though more
detailed information can be found here.
FirstClass
If you are on Wellesley Campus, you can access our FirstClass conference by
going to Wellesley Conferences --> Student Forums --> Student Organizations
--> Felding Medieval Society. It is an open conference and all are welcome.
Come and post your questions about the SCA or about medieval life in general.
Upcoming meetings are announced on this conference, as well as reminders for
local practices and guild meetings. It is a good place to make arrangements
for rides and also to post suggestions for the Provost as to what you'd like
to see at future meetings. It is also a place for our members to socialize,
so don't be surprised if some of the conversations stray a bit from the official
topic of the conference.
Get
Involved
If you are a student, faculty or staff member and think all of this is really
cool but don't know where to begin, check out this page.
Activities
The Boston area is rich in Guilds and activities. You can find a list of them
here. Feldings are encouraged to find subjects that interest them and pursue
them independantly of the group. This is generally quite easy to do, as most
activities are accesible by public transportation and are free.
Events on Campus
Upcoming Events We are in the process of scheduling meetings for the
rest of the semester. Check back here periodically for postings about upcoming
workshops.
Pictures
from Past Events
We've been taking a lot of pictures lately. Go to this page for a list of
all the pictures currently available.
Our Neighbors
Our Borough has reasonably close ties to the several other Boroughs that are
in the area that surrounds the present-day city of Boston, including:
Directions
to Felding
If you are coming out to Felding for any reason, we recommend that you check
out our directions on how to get to our Borough.
Resources
We have compiled an eclectic list of resources on the web for the use of Felding
and other SCAdians. They are mostly oriented toward women, as our membership
is drawn from a women's college, and also toward those who are new to the
SCA. There are some that are useful for any member of the SCA.
SCA
Terms
Listening to SCA members talk, you might be confused at first. We have our
own vocabulary to refer to various things, people, and events. Using historical
terms helps us create and maintain the atmosphere of the past. You'll get
used to it quickly, but here's a list of the more common words you might encounter.
As always, if you do not understand what someone is talking about, ask!
History
In the year 1990, C.E., our Provost at that time, a woman known as Radegund
von der Feuchtenstadt, presented the rest of the Barony of Carolingia with
a history of our Borough. Although this History only documents Felding up
to the year 1990, it is a fine document and an excellent chronicle of those
years.
Felding
Aunties
We call Feldings who have graduated from Wellesley "Aunties". You can find
a list of them here. Recently, the Borough lost membership, and if several
Felding Aunties had not intervened, the Borough might have vanished completely
from active life in Carolingia. To those Aunties, the entire Borough sends
a hearty thank you!
Favorholders
The Borough owes a lot to our Favorholders as well. We depend on nice people
to give us rides to events and practices, give our members sage advice, and
come out to the Borough to teach us wonderful and exciting things. The Felding
Favorholders have gone above and beyond the call of chivalry to help the ladies
of Felding. A list of them can be found here.
