Dough and Filling

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. filo leaves

  • 3 lb. walnuts, finely chopped

  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar

  • 1 lb. unsalted butter

  • _ tsp. Cinnamon

  • Procedure:

    Mix ground nuts, sugar and cinnamon and have accessible in bowl.
    Melt unsalted butter; have brush handy.
    In large 12x18 inch pan, Line and brush butter between each of 7 sheets of filo.
    Then, gently Sprinkle the nuts across.
    Continue with 4 layers of filo sheets,Brushing on butter between each of the sheets.
    Continue same Process until nuts are gone.
    Top with 7 sheets (be sure to butter Between each sheet).
    Brush top with butter.
    With a sharp knife, cut Baklava into diamond-shaped cookies.
    Bake for 30-45 minutes at 325 degrees, then at 300 degrees until golden brown.
    While pastry baking, prepare syrup.



    Syrup

    Ingredients:

  • c. water

  • 3 c. sugar

  • _ c. honey

  • a few drops of lemon juice

Procedure:

Combine syrup ingredients and bring to slow boil.
Cool syrup and pour over hot Baklava after you have drained excess butter.
