Dear Potential Sponsor:
We hope that after viewing our website and seeing how dedicated our members are, you will consider supporting one of Wellesley College's most successful student organizations. For the past five years, Wellesley has sent at least one team to the American Mock Trial Association's National Tournament, often sending both teams. As our members are always preparing for the Mock Trial season in the hopes of building on our past successes, we are looking for ways to pay for the expensive budget Mock Trial necessarily entails. Most of our members go on to law school, and many eventually become practicing attorneys. Mock Trial provides invaluable forensic, public speaking and acting experience for students and is always their first extracurricular activity, particularly because the time commitment is comparable to taking an extra class.
Our Mock Trial team is composed entirely of undergraduate students. We are student-run and largely student-financed. Unlike programs with attorneys from major law firms, we have the responsibility to fundraise, hold practices and train and evaluate new members. We can only travel to tournaments - held at universities in cities such as Minneapolis and St. Petersburg - only if we are able to raise sufficient funds.
Although we receive funding from Wellesley College, their support is extremely limited. Lodging, transportation, equipment, exhibits and registration fees for the American Mock Trial Association are a huge financial burden on our team. The number of tournaments attended is completely dependent on the amount of money we are able to raise each year, and this year it appears that we may be unable to send either team to the National Tournament given our current financial situation.
For this reason, we ask that you consider sponsoring the Wellesley College Mock Trial team. Your contribution will help us continue to build one of the premier Mock Trial programs in the country and will allow our students to pursue their passion for the practice of law. Each year we must raise almost $15,000 in order to run a successful program. Below we have included our requested levels of sponsorship:
