Why donate to the Shakespeare Society?

Founded in 1877, we have always endeavored to spread knowledge and love of Shakespeare to the community. Through our semesterly plays, guest performances, and events we touch hundreds people in the community each year.

Our reputation has extended beyond the local sphere to reach an international audience. Last year our February reading of the entire works of the Bard in under 24 hours garnered international attention and praise and inspired similar events across the nation.

But our most valuable resource has always been here, in the heart of Massachusetts. Members of our community have enjoyed the performances, events, and beauty of the Shakespeare Society and the Shakespeare House for over 100 years. Indeed, 150 Shakespeare enthusiasts and curious observers from the community joined us in our 24 Hours of Shakespeare reading.

Why donate now?

The Shakespeare House is an icon in our community, and it is possible the House draws just as many visitors a year as our events. Built in 1898, the house is a neo-Elizabethan structure modeled after Anne Hathaway's cottage in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, with the exception of a small stage on the second story.

However, our house is in deperate need of a number of very expensive repairs. In order to keep offering events to community and save the Shakespeare House, we must fundraise.
