Student Organizations
For New Organizations:
SOAC is responsible for constituting student organizations that wish to gain
official recognition from the college. Student organizations DON'T have to be
constituted to exist on campus. There are student organizations existing on
campus without constitution status. If an organization wishes to become
constituted, it must apply for the status and go through the newly modified two-
semester trial period (please consult with CGVP).
Application Deadline:
SOAC is responsible for setting the deadlines for the applications. The deadlines
are generally in the end of September and early in February of each academic year. Late applications and
applications submitted at other times will NOT be considered for approval.
Please see SOAC calender for 2006-2007 deadlines.
Constitution Process:
After SOAC receives the application packets (which includes a project proposal form, an organization information form, and the organization's constitution that follows SOAC constitution template), the committee will review the materials.
The contact person of the organization will be contacted regarding an opportunity to
present at a designated SOAC meeting. A presentation to SOAC is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
but not required. The organization will be notified of the result after the Monday night
meeting.
For Constituted Organizations:
Currently there are 150 constituted student organizations on campus. Please check the Organization List for a complete list of all constituted student organizations on campus.
What to do as Constituted Organizations:
Every constituted organization MUST reactivate EACH spring in order to retain constituted
status for the following school year. Failure to reactivate will cause the organization
to lose its constitution status for the following school year. All constituted organization
presidents (or their designees) are REQUIRED to attend the annual leadership conference held
every September. This conference provides documents, handouts and other important information for the
organization.
Benefits of Being a Constituted Organization:
-Organization locker in Wang campus center
-SOFC funding
-Priority over space reservation
-Recognition in college publications
