A Warm Welcome from Susane Ko,
2001 BITSA Conference Director

The 2001 BITSA Conference, entitled "Movement: Raising a New Voice," aims to examine issues about the ever-changing Taiwanese-American culture and identity. The term "movement" evokes various emotions and connotations, symbolizing both the physical immigrant movements from China to Taiwan and from Taiwan to the U.S., as well as the cultural, ethnic movement that describes the raising of a new voice among Taiwanese, Taiwanese-Americans, and Asian-Americans. We invite speakers, students, working professionals and faculty members to ponder these issues of identity and reemergence to better link their unique heritage to the present and for future growth. Our conference serves not only as a learning lesson and reflection for each participant, but as a celebration of all our voices, distinctly separate, but united as one to be heard.

On behalf of Wellesley Taiwanese Cultural Committee and BITSA, I hope you will join us for an exciting and inspiring day on October 27, 2001 at Wellesley College.

Hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Susane Ko
Director, 2001 BITSA Conference
Chair, Taiwanese Cultural Committee
