TSA First
General Meeting

By Sandi Liu '00

With warm greetings in Taiwanese, Mandarin, and English, our founding members kicked off our first TSA general meeting. It was great to see the fifteen faces gathered, both new and familiar. Brief introductions around the room were made, each person naming their favorite Taiwanese/Chinese food. Karen Chang, President and founding member, welcomed everyone and explained our original motivations and the initiation of TSA and the goals of making TSA into a vehicle for communication, education, and socialization for all members with different upbringing. She emphasized thatTSA will be what the members choose to make of it. Next, she updated us on activities that on our agenda for this semester and next year: possible lecturers, films, social activities, conferences, and general topics that members have expressed interest in so far. We ended with reminders about running for exec board, some upcoming events for AAA month, and our preliminary plans for raising awareness for 228. As we wrapped up and finished the last morsels of delicious Taiwanese snacks, members expressed more enthusiasm about TSA being an ideal forum to exchange ideas, backgrounds, and homesickness. =) It was a very successful meeting...and a great start for our Taiwanese Student Association!
