Energy Conservation Tips…and ways to help your dorm WIN!
Lighting
• Turn off the lights when leaving ANY room.
• Use sunlight instead of artificial lights during the day.
• Instead of brightly lighting an entire room, focus the light
where it is needed.
• Study in public areas, such as the library.
Appliances
• Unplug battery chargers, power adapters, and any other small appliances
when not in use.
• Don’t keep refrigerators and freezers too cold. Recommended temperatures
are 37-40°F for the refrigerator. Freezers should be kept at 0°F.
Hygiene
• Turn off water when brushing or washing your face.
• Wash a full load of laundry and use the cold wash cycle (bright colors
cycle) whenever possible.
Other Useful Tips
• Close curtains or blinds during the night to keep heat in, open window
coverings during the day to take advantage of the sun’s
light and warmth.
• Keep lamps away from thermostats since the heat produced from lamps can
throw off heating systems.
