Sustainability
Advisory Committee
Sustainability Month: October 2006
What is Sustainability
Month?
Wellesley College has designated October
2006 as Sustainability Month in order to build on efforts begun
last year to raise awareness about environmentally responsible
practices and to educate members of the community about what they
can do to conserve resources, reduce waste and engage in other
sustainable behaviors.
So what's Wellesley
College doing about it?
The primary focus will be a month-long energy
competition among the residence halls with prizes awarded to the
winning halls. All members of the community are encouraged to participate
in efforts to reduce their energy consumption throughout the month
and daily reminders and energy-saving tips will be posted on-line. <http://www.wellesley.edu/AdminandPlanning/Sustainability/competition.html>
There will be weekly themes with related
programming, such as showings of An Inconvenient Truth. The programming
is being sponsored by: Facilities Management Department, Sustainability
Advisory Committee, College Government President's Council, House
Presidents Council, and Wellesley Energy and Environmental Defense.
The week of October 2nd: Transportation
The week of October 9th: Water
The week of October 16th: Electricity/Computers
The week of October 23rd: Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
Cool. So what can I
do?
Anything and everything! Please attend
the many programs planned and put in extra efforts to follow
helpful conservation tips posted throughout the month. Some tips
can be found on the Facilities Management Department page. <http://www.wellesley.edu/Facilities/energy.html>
