Each year Wellesley College accepts a small number of transfer students from accredited four- and two-year private and public institutions in the United States for entrance in either September or January. In order to receive a Wellesley degree, a student must complete at least two years (16 units) of course work at the College. Therefore, only incoming sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. First semester first-year students at any college or university are not eligible for admission.

The Board of Admission expects to see at least two full semesters of course work completed at another college or university for students applying for transfer admission. High school credentials must be submitted, and will be considered by the committee in conjunction with a student’s performance at the college level. A transfer candidate must be attending a college or university within the United States.

Application Requirements and Deadlines
The Common Application for Transfers and the Wellesley College Supplement must be submitted together. Students may apply online at www.commonapp.org, where they will find the transfer application and the Wellesley supplement. Alternately, if they prefer to print a copy of the application and supplement, they can download these forms as PDF files at www.wellesley.edu/Admission/application.html.
Candidates applying for entrance in September must submit the application and all supporting credentials by the application deadline, March 1. Those applying for second semester entrance must submit the application, fee, and all supporting credentials by November 1. Prior to the application deadline, correspondence will be sent to applicants informing them of missing credentials. It is then the applicant’s responsibility to follow up on the status of missing credentials and to check with the Admission Office to see if they have been received.

Applicants for entrance in September will be notified of the Board of Admission decision in May. Applicants for entrance in February will be notified of the Board of Admission decision in mid-December.

Credit Evaluation Guidelines
Wellesley does not automatically grant credit for courses taken at other colleges. Each candidate’s record is evaluated in terms of Wellesley’s degree requirements and according to the accreditation of the institutions involved. Credit is given only for those courses which are comparable to courses offered in the liberal arts curriculum at Wellesley. A tentative evaluation concerning the transferal of credits will be made by the Registrar at the time of the offer of admission.

Housing
Housing at Wellesley is usually available for all students. Since much of student life at the College revolves around the residence halls, most students choose to live on campus. However, any student who wishes to live off campus may do so

Special Programs
All transfer students may take courses through the cross-registration program with MIT. Incoming sophomore transfers may take part in the Twelve College Exchange or Junior Year Aboard Programs. All transfers may take advantage of the many internships Wellesley offers during the academic year, Wintersession, and summer. However, incoming juniors may not participate in and Wintersession

Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to transfer students. Wellesley admits transfer students from U.S. colleges and universities only. Any student who wishes to apply from an international college or university must apply as a first-year student, not as a transfer student, and she must follow the first-year application deadlines. Please refer to the application instructions for information on international admission and financial aid.
Each applicant who is applying for financial aid must file the following forms: the enclosed Wellesley College application for Financial Aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA), and the Financial Aid Profile. Also, transfer applicants must submit their Financial Aid transcript from their current or previous college. The Financial Aid Profile of the College Scholarship Service is distributed to secondary schools and colleges in the fall. Forms may be obtained by writing to CSS, P.O. Box 6300, Princeton, NJ 08541 or by calling (609) 771-7725. The Wellesley Financial Aid Office will also supply these forms upon request.
The financial aid deadline is March 1 for students seeking entrance in September, and November 1 for students seeking entrance for the spring term. Students who are admitted and have applied for aid will receive notification of any financial aid award with their letters of admission.
