Named for Wellesley's eleventh president, Nannerl Overholser Keohane,
the Sports
Center has been cited as one of the top facilities in the country
by a national sports association. The facility includes basketball
and volleyball arenas, five indoor tennis courts, a four-lane 200-meter
track, and a pool with eight 25-meter lanes and a separate diving
area. In addition there are dance/yoga studios, a multipurpose gymnasium,
squash courts, a sports medicine facility, and cardiovascular and
weight training rooms.
Two new playing fields, a softball
diamond and mini-stadium, and an outdoor track were completed in
fall 2002 on forty acres overlooking scenic Lake Waban.
Wellesley has an outstanding varsity
athletics program. Over the past eight years, Wellesley has
earned a reputation for offering one of the strongest Division III
athletic programs in the country.
In addition,Wellesley offers extensive
opportunities for intramural and sports clubs, as well as instruction
in more than 30 activities, including sailing, scuba diving,
and
golf on the College's own nine-hole golf course. You may also choose
from nine types of dance classes, four types of racquet sports,
aqua-robics, strength
training and conditioning, cardio kickboxing, aerobics, martial
arts, self defense, and yoga.
