WHITIN OBSERVATORY
Near the Science Center is the Whitin
Observatory. Housing 6-, 12- and 24-inch telescopes, laboratories,
and its own Astronomy Library, the Observatory is a popular place
to study for astronomy students and non-astronomy students alike.
The Observatory regularly holds open-telescope nights, when anyone
can stop by and an astro major or professor will be there to set
up the telescopes for a look at the stars.
Wellesley alumna Pamela
Melroy '83 spent many evenings here. A NASA astronaut,
she piloted Discovery to the International Space Station
in 2000,
the space shuttle Atlantis in 2002.She led the seven-member crew
on the space shuttle in Discovery in October 2007.
