Course Information

AFR 300: This wintersession study abroad program is designed to complement the Africana Studies curriculum and to enhance the College's mission in promoting multicultural learning. It will explore the history, culture, economy, and political life of Jamaica and help promote an understanding of the Caribbean as a whole. Significantly, the program will give students an opportunity for total immersion in the Jamaican environment and for participation in several community-based projects that will add experiential value to their clasroom-based education. Students will have an opportunity to learn in a traditional academic environment at the University of the West Indies, in addition to participating in rural field study visits, workshops, cultural activities, tracing kinship ties, and tropical rainforest hiking.

Prerequisite: By permission of the department.
