Designed as a multifaceted program, the Albright Institute offers learning and teaching opportunities for the Wellesley community. For Wellesley students, the program serves as a springboard for those considering a public-sector career in international affairs and global relations––or for students considering any career that deals with global issues. Approximately 40 students will be chosen to participate in the program as Albright Fellows each year.
During the first two weeks, Wellesley College faculty from a diverse range of departments will provide insight into various global policy issues. Each afternoon, credentialed alumnae and practitioners from various fields will provide real-world context for theories, concepts, and ideas. Small groups will study an issue and jointly propose solutions to the problem. Summer Internships Following their participation in the Wintersession, the Albright Fellows will pursue College-funded summer internships. A combination of new and existing internship opportunities will allow students to apply what they have learned to their work in the field. In the fall, the Fellows will prepare written summaries about their experiences. Then they will speak at the Tanner Conference, an annual Wellesley College event that showcases the integration of academic theory with real-world experience.
Bernstein Faculty Symposium By engaging faculty in global education initiatives, the Albright Institute will enrich the entire Wellesley College community. The Bernstein Faculty Symposium will be a one- or two-day seminar led by the Mary Jane Durnford Lewis '59 Distinguished Visiting Professor, and is open to Wellesley faculty across disciplines, as well as researchers from the Wellesley Centers for Women. Participants will examine global issues related to the professor’s expertise. It is envisioned that this professional development opportunity will inform the faculty as they develop new courses, new content, and new curricular and pedagogical innovations.
