Class of 1965

President Welcome | VP Connections | Events

Hold the Dates: Miami Mini-Reunion, March 6th to 8th

Our President’s Perspective

Mid-October brought alumnae back to Wellesley for Alumnae Leadership Council 2008. Beside visiting with old friends from all classes and having many discussions about the presidential election, our class members attending—Cynthia Van Hazinga, Jan Stone Curtis, and Sophie Sa—joined me in attending seminars and information sessions. Student panelists confirmed that Wellesley today succeeds in turning youthful, enthusiastic, women into engaged world citizens.

Unlike an apparent majority of our class, I continue to work. Throughout my law career, Michigan's mid-winter has been brightened by thinking of vacations and sunshine yet to come. This year I will look forward not only to sunshine but also to our class's Florida mini-reunion March 6th to 8th (see below).

We hope many of you will join us. We want to gather information from each of you on whether and how our classmates find paths to satisfaction in retirement. Mark your calendars for June 11-13, 2010, for our 45th reunion. We look forward to seeing you there if not before.

Connections Matter: Mini-Reunion in March

If you are viewing this after early December, 2008 it could seem déjà vu (much of what you are reading was in the December snail mail newsletter), but we are very pleased you are online since most of our upcoming communications will be electronic. To make sure we stay in touch, we hope you’ll do the following:

  1. Visit http://www.wellesley.edu/Alum and follow the clicks to make sure you are registered to get into the restricted sections of the site, which include the Class Directory and Class of 1965 Discussion Group.
  2. Update your contact information online to make sure that Wellesley (and therefore your classmates) have your e-mail address; much of our planning for our Mini-Reunion and June, 2010 Reunion will be done through e-mail.
  3. Connect to your classmates by posting a note to our Class Notes.
  4. Take advantage of the Class of 1965 Discussion Board, which is accessed online.
  5. Visit our Class Website frequently for updates on our 45th Reunion (see below).
To get from “high tech” to “high touch”, please join us for a mini-reunion in Miami Friday, March 6th till Sunday, March 8th. We’ll visit Fairchild Tropical Gardens Friday p.m. followed by an informal supper at my home; do a mini-Art Basel tour of some of Miami’s finest art collections on Saturday; visit South Beach Saturday night with maybe a New World Symphony concert; and have many options for Sunday. We will be pleased to have participation for any or all parts. Please let me know by an instant e-mail if you are a definite or a possible and hotel/housing needs—or by returning the snail mail postcard enclosed with the newsletter. We will keep in touch with details as they evolve—by e-mail!

Class Vice President

Countdown to Reunion: June, 2010

'65's 45th is June 11-13, 2010! Mark those dates! As chair for the event, I'm both excited and more than a little nervous. And it's not too far off to begin planning! Thankfully, Betty Pfaelzer Rauch and Ellen Sachs Rodin have agreed to be my co-chairs, while Anne Ballard Shumadine, our class treasurer, has agreed to simultaneously serve as reunion treasurer. We even have identified our class insignia—beautiful baskets/totes woven by Kenyan women—courtesy of Patty Stamp.

I already have a list of a dozen or so classmates who have expressed interest in helping with the reunion, but a lot needs to be done, so please let Betty, Ellen, or me know if you would like to be involved or have suggestions for what we might do. For our 40th reunion, 140 of you (plus about 15 spouses) participated. I hope to see more of you in 2010! Comments and suggestions welcome!

Sophie Sa
Reunion Chair

And all of our contact information is in the Wellesley Online Directory, as well as in the snail-mail newsletter.
