Welcome From Your Class President
Hi, everyone! Thanks again to those of you who made it to
our 30th reunion—and
if you did, you know it was a fantastic time, despite the rain. The campus
has finally recovered from all the recent work that’s been done (the
Lulu Wang campus center, the renovation of the courtyard behind Tower Court,
the reclamation of the parking lot near Alumni Hall and the new parking facility
that replaced it), and it looked beautiful—again, despite the rain. The
sun came out just in time for the start of the parade on Sunday, where our
class showed its usual indomitable spirit, swinging colorful little disco-ball
necklaces in the air and shouting off-color cheers.
The alumnae office told us to expect about 80 classmates,
but we had nearly 120. It’s a good thing we lucked into the Davis Museum for our Saturday
night dinner, because the McAfee dining room never would have accommodated
the final count. Afterward, Rheba Rutkowski had everyone dancing till almost
2:00 in the morning. The class of 2001, which was based in Bates, actually
called the campus police to come and shut us down. Apparently, we were keeping
their kids awake! The Class of 1996, however, has requested that they be permanently
housed next to us just so they can come and dance with us. Now that’s
the red hot spirit!
So, just four years and seven months to the next major reunion,
and I’m
hoping we’ll have an even stronger turnout. In the meantime, class vice
president Vicki Weil Rabyne is going to help organize some local mini-reunions
and a mid-term trip to keep the spirit going. And we’re hoping to see
more activity on this site, with quarterly updates of photos and news, discussion
groups, and more. (Carol Bellhouse wants a poetry page—why not?) Check
back often to see what’s new.
I’m looking forward to serving as class president. If
you have any suggestions, complaints or comments, please write to me at camillerankin@alum.wellesley.edu.
