Class of 1979: Reunion's Coming!!
June 12 -14, 2009
All of us on the Reunion Committee have been working hard to bring you a thoughtful, fun, engaging weekend! We have festive social hours, custom drinks, delicious food, special programs, and cool entertainment, plus all of the usual rituals - Step Singing, Alumnae Parade, and our Class Meeting. Plus, Saturday afternoon, there's Madeleine Albright '59!
To keep you up to date, this letter highlights some of the particular details for our Class of '79 Reunion. Please check the Alumnae website at www.wellesley.edu/Alum/Reunion for a list of attendees, the weekend schedule, parking instructions, etc.
Schedule Notes:
Step Singing is Friday from 6-7 p.m.
Our Friday Social Hour is after dinner, from 9-11 pm. Special martinis, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. Kids welcome.
All of our meals, except Sat. dinner, will be in or directly outside of Beebe.
Saturday Dinner is in Tower Court, so keep in mind the walk from and back to Beebe. Choose footwear accordingly. To avoid disappointment, please register and sign up for the Saturday night dinner ahead, so we are able to accommodate everyone!
** All children, no matter what age, must be supervised Saturday evening. ** Wellesley requires that children of any age must be out of the dorm during the Saturday night festivities. Any questions? Check with Barbara Feer, bsfeer@alum.wellesley.edu or Lee (Pat) Harrigan, path2paris@yahoo.com.
Saturday, Diane Keefe has put together a wonderful array of programs. (See note below)
Sunday, remember to bring/wear white for the Alumnae Parade.
The Sunday picnic is at 1 pm. If you can, stay on to visit, and of course, we would love assistance packing up.
Class Spirit Fund:
If you are unsure about attending Reunion, limited funds are still available for financial aid. Confidential requests can be made to Laura Adamczyk at 718-283-2334 or ladamczyk@wellesley.edu in the Alumnae Office.
Annual Giving
The Class of '79 can do more. Even if you can't make Reunion, we need your participation! Let's make ourselves proud! Sally Buckman, our Annual Giving Rep. writes:
Exciting news on the Annual Giving Front! Special thanks to our classmate, Anne Samuels Hansen, for offering us a challenge grant of $25,000 which will be used to match all gifts, dollar for dollar, received between now and Reunion, or until the match is completed! Contributions of all sizes are greatly appreciated! Our class participation stands at 30%, behind the Class of 1974 (39%) and the Class of 1984 (42%). Twenty-one generous 79ers have made Durant level gifts ($2500 or higher), compared to the Class of 1974 (26) and class of 1984 (49), but we can use more. Anne's challenge comes at a perfect time, and we encourage everyone to make a contribution to honor Wellesley at our 30th Reunion! And, for those who have already given, thank you!!
Donations can be made online at www.wellesley.edu/Resources/gift
Insignia and Record Book:
Elegant martini glasses (good for other drinks too), and cozy pashmina shawls will be available for pickup at different times throughout the weekend. Extras will be on sale, if you haven't pre-ordered.
Unique Record Books, complete with archival photos, survey results and news on our classmates will be on sale for $25 on campus during reunion weekend.
Special Requests:
We have several requests for donated items. If you have a garden, or would like to bring flowers in an arrangement, we would love to have them for our Saturday night festivities. Please contact Barbara Feer at bsfeer@alum.wellesley.edu.
While our D.J. provides entertainment, we could use water, sodas, and after-dinner snacks. Chocolate?! We have 100+ guests, so any offerings will be gratefully accepted.
We welcome volunteers for:
* Dorm set -up, Friday morning
* Decorating for Saturday night
* General go-fer, if we've forgotten anything. Folks who live nearby could be particularly helpful. This is not to say we'll need your lawn mower, but items such as an ice pick, an extra cooler, an easel, or your services as errand runner, or balloon decorator, could be quite helpful.
* Dorm tidying
Please contact Barbara or Lee (Pat) if you're willing to help.
We are looking forward to a great reunion, and all being together again, celebrating FABULOUS AT FIFTY!!
Warmly,
Your Reunion Team
Lee (Pat) Harrigan and Barbara Feer
From Diane Keefe:
Saturday workshops for the Class of 1979
To be held in Beebe Living Room
Times to be determined
Enormous Changes at Mid-Stream
Can 50-something women make huge life changes successfully? What happens when we decide a relationship, career or creative approach needs a complete overhaul?
Facilitated by Julia Walker, who walked away from her high-powered PR job in 2008.
Exercise and Health As Time Goes By
For those of us who have migrated from one sport to another or just recently gotten into exercising for the fun of it, here's an opportunity to discuss exercising, injury prevention, and optimal diets, with your fellow '79er athletes.
Margot Robinson, MD and triathlete (specialty is neuromuscular disease, sports medicine, chronic pain) will provide her insights, with Pat Harrigan facilitating.
What Now for the Peace/ Women's Movement?
Now that Barack Obama has been elected and the US is moving toward exit from Iraq, what's to be done in response to the escalation in Afghanistan? Is pacifism a realistic response to the Taliban's approach to women and girls? Can humanitarian aid and diplomacy provide a path to civil society? Let's get together in a spirit of openness to discuss our responsibilities as citizens in the face of these questions.
Facilitated by Diane Keefe who opposed the war in Iraq from the start, but finds herself perplexed by current circumstances.
Film of Our 25th Reunion
Our classmate, Maria Iacobo, made a movie of our reunion last time 'round including interviews, party scenes, and step singing. We'll show the movie at the end of our class meeting on Saturday. Stay tuned to see whether Maria will talk about the process of filming us or lead a discussion of our impressions of the film and of our 25th. We will try to get an additional showing on reunion weekend but stay tuned for location and time.
Yoga for Every Body with Beverly
Tentative class on Sat. and Sunday a.m. in Beebe with Beverly.
If any classmate feels moved to facilitate a workshop contact dianekeefe@gmail.com.

Deadline for getting recordbook entries is April 30!
From your class record book chair:
Dear Class of 1979:
What better way to remember our upcoming 30th reunion than a record book with pictures, thoughts, and information from all of you, as well as the results of the survey that more than 100 you responded to!
So, be a part of the record book by completing the enclosed personal page in one of two ways:
1) Complete the personal page and mail it back to me in the return envelope you received in the mail.
You can fill it out exactly as it is laid out -- using handwriting (how 1979!) or computer -- or you can use it loosely and create your own personal page incorporating the information requested. The important thing to keep in mind is that whatever you submit will appear pretty much as is in the record book (each personal page will occupy a relatively small space -- index card size (5" x 8") so if you submit multiple photos, make sure they're not too small.
Click on the appropriate link below to download the personal page template:
Word format (for modifying on your computer)
PDF format (for printing and completing by hand)
2) Email the same information to me at msperch@charter.net.
If you are emailing me, please make sure images are high enough resolution for printing (i.e. 300 dpi).
While you are submitting your record book entry, please take a moment to update your contact information with the College by calling 1-800-339-5233, emailing updates@alum.wellesley.edu, or going online to www.wellesley.edu/Alum/Community to edit your entry in the directory. Look forward to hearing from you!
