May 2004

Fellow classmates,

Countdown to reunion!

If you haven’t done so already, register for our 25th reunion which will take place from June 4 to June 6.  You can register on-line [www.wellesley.edu/Alum/Reunion] or return the registration form that was sent to you by the College.  But by all means, do it by May 21.  The College will be unable to ensure availability of meals or residential space after that date.  Confidential financial assistance is available through the College for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to join us.  Contact the Alumnae Association directly at 781-283-2331 for more information.

Here’s the update on reunion planning.  Friday night will be dinner under the tent on Severance Green followed by Float Night and fireworks on the lake.  We’ve got a late-night peppermint fudge pie party planned back at the dorm.

Saturday includes our class meeting at 9 followed by step-singing (just us!) at 10 followed by various lectures on campus during the day.  Ann Timmons is putting on a special performance of, “Off the Wall: The Life and Works of Charlotte Perkins Gilman,“ at 12:45 at Shakespeare House.  Ann's original one-woman show engagingly portrays one of America's most original thinkers as she crusades for human rights at the dawn of the 20th century.  Check out Ann’s website [www.anntimmons.com] to find out more about her show.  We are so grateful to Ann for all the work she is going to in order to perform for us!

Many of our classmates have stepped up to lead panel discussions in the afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 back at the dorm (some will be held from 3:30 to 4:30, others from 4:30-5:30).  Here’s the current list of panels:

1. Collecting Contemporary Art as a Way to Support Living Artists led by Sarah Sargeant, collector and former gallery owner.

2. Socially Responsible Investing and Community Development led by Diane Keefe, Portfolio Manager of Pax World High Yield Fund and Joan Khattab, financial advisor with Citigroup.

3. Why We Should Love Other People’s Kids and Other Matters Regarding Education and Policy led by Joan Becker who has worked with the urban scholars program to bring kids from lower income communities to Wellesley.

4. How to be an MD/Medical Professional and Balance Work/life Issues led by Ramsey Fountain, MD, Pediatrician, and Cherie Ertha, MD, General Medicine.

5. Environmental Issues We’ll Wish We Worked On at the 50th led by Heidi Schultz, Vice President of Environmental Research Group, and Diane Keefe, Portfolio Manager of Pax World High Yield Fund.

6. Get Out of My Life But First Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall?  Whether or not you’ve read Wolf’s best-seller on parenting the “new teenager,” you may have survival tips and stories to share about navigating this stage of parenting.  Jan Civian will convene this discussion.

Diane Keefe is coordinating the panels and would be pleased to hear ideas for additional ones.  Call her at (212) 266-0327.

Class supper will be under a tent on Chapel Lawn on Saturday night.  We’ve got a lovely dinner planned with serving stations and multiple cuisines.  A social hour on the Stone-Davis patio will precede dinner, and we’ll have a DJ and dancing at dinner for the evening’s entertainment.

The Record Book is in print thanks to the hard work of Pam Wood, Jane Rothchild, and Jane’s partner, Adell Donaghue (a graphics professional to whom we owe a debt of gratitude and a plug – check out Adell’s company [www.adelldonaghue.com]).  There’s still time to make a submission to be included in the addendum.  Click here to get more information about a late submission to the Record Book.  Many people have already ordered their Record Book but there will be some on sale at reunion.

As part of the Record Book effort, we developed a survey of 25 Questions for ’79.     Many of you (about a quarter, actually) have already taken the survey and a write-up of the results appears in the Record Book.  For anyone who wants to still participate, click here to get to the Survey.  Please take it by June 1st and we’ll post updated results at reunion.  HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Finally, Rachel Hennick Perrella has ordered fleece vests with our reunion insignia.  They are gorgeous and we’ll be selling them for $30.

Your reunion committee is very psyched about our upcoming reunion and we hope the feeling is contagious.  We want everyone to be able to join us for reunion, or at least to enjoy the Record Book.  If you know anyone who needs financial assistance to join us, or would like a record book at no charge, they can contact the Alumnae Association at (781) 283-2331 for confidential assistance.  No one from our class will be informed or involved.

All the best,

Jan & Heidi

P.S.  Please feel free to contact either one of us if you have questions, concerns, or offers of help!  Here’s how to reach us:  heidi.schultz@erg.com and jan.civian@wfd.com.

Can’t wait to see you in June!!!
