A Year in Review: 2003
by Dorothy Jones-Davis
Newly Elected Class Secretary
Fall 2003
Hey ’98! I am glad to serve you as your new secretary for the next five years. It was great seeing all of you that made it to reunion; I look forward to our next with great anticipation. As reunion clearly illustrated, Wellesley women only get better with time! Many thanks to Christine Hrul, our outgoing secretary, for her hard work.
Jessica Lubarsky received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School on June 2nd. She will begin work as a litigation associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in September in NYC. Another new NYC lawyer is Mijha Butcher, who graduated from Yale Law School on May 26th. She will begin work in NYC after taking a relaxing vacation in Fiji and Australia. Yet another new lawyer is Camila Alarcon, who graduated from Boston University Law School in May. Camila has relocated to Arizona to practice law.
Starting her MBA at MIT’s Sloan School of Business is Christina Pan. She’s in her first year and has five other Wellesley women in her class, although none are fellow 98ers.
Isabella Trauttmansdorff has been working this past year for a nonprofit organization called Steppingstone that prepares children from Philadelphia public schools to enter competitive independent schools. She’s also on the Advisory Board of a new charter school that is scheduled to open in Fall 2004. In her “spare” time, Isabella has been working hard on our Class Record Book…thanks from all of us, Isabella!
Suzanne (Henry) Brody has temporarily relocated to Israel to study, after completing her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UCSD. In other moves, Jamia Sulayman has moved to France to study at the Sorbonne. Also in France is Rebekah Irving, who is doing volunteer work at La Cimade in Toulouse. La Cimade helps foreigners with immigration and residence paperwork, which Rebekah finds extremely helpful in her own situation. She even found some time to find some long-lost relatives in Kefalonia, Greece and to also visit Spain for three weeks!
It is with great sadness that I report the loss of our classmate, Anne Murray Ladd. Anne died June 24th, 2003 from accidental injuries sustained on a bicycle tour of the Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks in Arizona and Utah. Anne was a great friend to many and an inspiration to all her knew her. We will miss her greatly.
Donations in Anne's memory may be made to the Anne Murray Ladd Fund at either Aim High, c/o Lick-Wilmerding High School, 755 Ocean Ave., San Francisco 94112 or Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, 106 Central Street, Wellesley, MA 02481. There is an e-group on Yahoo Groups appropriately entitled Anne Ladd Memorial group, devoted to memorializing Anne, which classmates may also want to visit.
Again, it was great seeing all of you at reunion. I’ve posted some pictures of reunion on our yahoo e-group website; enjoy them, and send me reunion pictures to post if you have others! Keep in touch and have a great Fall!
