Mushrooms at Tryon Creek State Park
Friday, October 16th, 6:00 to 8:30 pm
Join Wellesley alumnae, their guests, and others for a fun(gi)-filled
evening at Tryon Creek State Park's Nature Center. We will enjoy beer,
wine, and mushroom-filled and mushroom-inspired appetizers, we will be
treated to a presentation by Dane Osis, mycologist from Fort Stevens
State Park. Mycology is branch of biology concerned with the study of
fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, their
taxonomy, and their use to humans as a source for tinder, medicinals
(e.g., penicillin), food (e.g., beer, wine, cheese, edible mushrooms),
entheogens, as well as their dangers, such as poisoning or infection.
Tryon Creek State Park is a 670-acre day use area approximately 15
minutes from downtown Portland. There are 8 miles of hiking rails and
3.5 miles of horse trails. Pets on leash are welcome in the park.
The Friends of Tryon Creek State Park's mission is to conserve and
enhance the natural resources, and promote the educational, interpretive
and recreational programs of Tryon Creek State Park.

Admissions Update:
Alumnae from Oregon and Southwest Washington interview applicants unable to participate in an on-campus interview. If you are interested in
interviewing prospective students or other admissions work, please
contact Alumnae Admissions Representative Karen Frind Delaney '86 who
coordinates admissions and prospective student activities for our club

Book Award Update:
The Wellesley College Book Award recognizes high-achieving female
students in their junior year. Recipients receive a special Wellesley
edition of the Norton Book of Women's Lives, slip-cased in blue linen,
embossed in gold with the Wellesley seal. The Oregon Wellesley Club has
been awarding books at several local high schools including Cleveland,
Wilson, Lincoln, Grant, St. Mary's, Southridge, and Forest Grove. If
you would like to underwrite a book, or if you have a connection at
another area high school and would like to liaison to see if we can
include that school, please contact Brooke Van Roekel '95 at
