Wellesley Club Discussion Groups

What is a discussion group?

A discussion group is an online forum in which subscribers can post, read, and reply to messages from other subscribers.

Why have a club discussion group?

A club discussion group will allow you to communicate more frequently with alumnae in your area. It is a valuable supplement to broadcast emails since club broadcast emails can only be sent once or twice a month.

How to I request a discussion group for my club?

1. Sign in to the Online Community
2. Click on Discussions in the top navigation bar.
3. At the bottom of the page, click on Submit a Request.

Once my discussion group is set up, how do I get people to subscribe to it?

Request a broadcast email to be sent to all alumnae in your area inviting them to subscribe. Include the following instructions:

To subscribe to a discussion group:

1. Sign in the Online Community
2. Click on Discussions in the top navigation bar.
3. Click on Geographic Clubs
4. Click on the club name
5. Follow the instructions on the page to subscribe.

When someone posts to the discussion group, how will I know?

When you subscribe to a discussion group, you will have the option of receiving individual email posts, receiving a summary digest of postings once a day, or only viewing posts online.

How do I post to a discussion group?

1. Via Email: You can email the discussion group email address: [club]@wls.dgroups.alumniconnections.com (Ex: boston@wls.dgroups.alumniconnections.com). This email address is listed on the subscription page.

or

2. Online: Click on the discussion group name, then click on Post a Message.

Other information:

Discussion groups can be limited such that only group owners can post messages (though all subsribers can read them). However, most groups are set up so that any subscriber can post a message.

Discussion groups are a valuable supplement to broadcast emails. They should not replace broadcast emails, however, because discussion group postings only go to subscribers, whereas broadcast emails go to all alumnae in your area with an email address listed with the College.
