SCULPTURE COURT GALLERY | JEWETT CORRIDOR GALLERY
The Art Gallery is devoted to the exhibition of student work and shows generated by the Art Department. Exhibitions by professional artists may also be presented when the work relates to the educational goals and concerns of the Art Department. In addition to these spaces, the studio hallways of Jewett and Pendleton West often present informal displays of studio course work in progress.
Proposals for student-initiated exhibitions are encouraged. An application form is available in the Art Department office, and specific questions should be directed towards Clara Lieu, Gallery Director. Since the gallery schedule is arranged a semester ahead of time, proposals for fall exhibitions should be submitted in the spring semester if possible, or by September 30 at the latest. Requests for exhibition space made later in the academic year will be considered whenever possible. Exhibitions vary in length, generally lasting between two and six weeks. A more extensive statement of guidelines for the student gallery is available in the Art Department office.
Students interested in a career in the studio arts or gallery management gain invaluable hands-on experience while helping to run the student galleries. With this in mind, students are sometimes asked to help organize, publicize, and install the various gallery exhibitions. Please contact Clara Lieuif you would like to participate in the gallery programming.
Information on guest lectures and gallery exhibitions can be viewed here.

Jewett Art Center, Rm. 350
Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:30 am -4:00 pm
The Visual Resource Collection dates to 1885, the first year an art curriculum was offered at Wellesley College. The VRC houses an extensive collection of lantern slides in the areas of architecture and painting, some still used in classrooms today. In 2006 the collection consists of over 350,000 35 mm slides, (the most heavily circulated part of the collection) that cover such diverse topics as modern African photography to Gothic metalwork. Recently, the VRC has moved into the production of digital images and in Fall 2006 launched a digital image database, MDID.
The Visual Resources Collection serves the Art Department of Wellesley College. We provide high quality slides and digital images to support the educational mission of the department. We also provide technical support to faculty and staff as we transition to new technologies. Please visit our website for more information.
You can also contact Marci Hahn if you have any questions about using the collection.
