The Visual Resource Collection dates to 1885, the first year an art curriculum was offered at Wellesley College. The VRC houses an extensive collection of lantern slides in the areas of architecture and painting, some still used in classrooms today. In 2006 the collection consists of over 350,000 35 mm slides, (the most heavily circulated part of the collection) that cover such diverse topics as modern African photography to Gothic metalwork. Recently, the VRC has moved into the production of digital images and in Fall 2006 launched a digital image database, MDID.

The Visual Resources Collection serves the Art Department of Wellesley College. We provide high quality slides and digital images to support the educational mission of the department. We also provide technical support to faculty and staff as we transition to new technologies. Please visit our website at: www.wellesley.edu/Art/VisualResources for more information.

You can also contact Marci Hahn (mhahn) if you have any questions about using the collection.
