My life history...in reverse
- I'm now an Associate Professor at Wellesley College. You can find me at the Whitin Observatory where things are Hot and Happening.
- I spent one year as a Radcliffe Institute Fellow.
- I used to be an astrophysics postdoc at the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) in Cambridge,MA.
- Before that, I was a lowly grad student at Steward Observatory (University of Arizona), in sunny Tucson, AZ.
- I spent my undergraduate years at not-usually-sunny Cornell University, but the weather gods granted me many happy nights of observing with the Fuertes Observatory 12" refractor .
- And way back when, I got my start as a true blue Delawarean. There aren't too many of us, but I'm not the only one, you know!
Work interests
- Quasar host galaxies far away--I have been using the Magellan I and Gemini North telescopes to image very distant quasars in the near-IR. An explanation why can be found in this paper from the 2004 conference "Essential Science in Hubble's Final Years."
- Quasar and Seyfert host galaxies nearby-- I have used telescopes in Tucson and the Hubble Space Telescope to take images like these. Here is a resulting 2001 ApJ paper and a PostScript version of a 1999 ApJLetter.
- Planets around young stars-- I used the Hubble Space Telescope search for giant planets around stars in the young Galactic open cluster IC348. You can read about it in this 2005 ApJ paper.

- Listening to lots of music--especially bluegrass, Dawg, folk on WUMB, 1970's rock
