Wellesley Bombs Babson 70-47 in NEWMAC Opener

BABSON PARK, CONN. – Wellesley College had four players in double-figures, including three double-doubles, cruising to a 70-47 victory over Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball match-up Tuesday night.

Sophomore Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, Calif.) led all scorers with 16 points, on 6-for-12 shooting from the field, and recorded her third double-double of the season grabbing 11 boards. Senior co-captains Christine Carbonello (Londonderry, N.H.) and Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) each had double-doubles for Wellesley (6-5, 1-0 NEWMAC) as Carbonello netted 12 points and corralled a season-high 10 rebounds while Grover chipped in with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had 15 points, on 4-for-7 shooting including a 3-for-5 mark from beyond the arc, five rebounds, and two blocks in a solid-game for Wellesley.

Wellesley outscored Babson (7-7, 0-1) 24-8 in the opening 15 minutes of the game and led by as much as 19 points in the first half at 31-12 before Babson rattled off a 9-0 run to pull within 10 by the break. It was as close as Babson would get as Wellesley continued its hot-shooting connecting on 50% of its shots in the second half (12-for-24).

Babson's Joanna Maher (North Easton, Mass.) paced the Beavers with 13 points and three assists while Ingrid Miller (East Lyme, Conn.) chipped in with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
