Mount Holyoke Defeats Wellesley 46-43
WELLESLEY, MASS. – Sara Belding (Sebastopol,
Calif.) and Jessica Justice (Doylestown, Pa.) each scored 10 points
a piece to lead Mount Holyoke to a 46-43 New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference Women's Basketball victory past Wellesley,
Saturday at Wellesley.
With the win Mount Holyoke earns its sixth straight victory and
stands at 12-3 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC while Wellesley evens
out at 6-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
With neither team shooting well in the first half, Mount Holyoke
took a slim 26-23 lead in the break on 32.9 % shooting (10-for-33)
compared to Wellesley's 26% (6-for-23).
Mount Holyoke took a nine point lead in the second half, outscoring
Wellesley 8-2 over the first six minutes and never looked back en
route to the win.
Wellesley was paced by Erin Johnson's (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.)
11 points while Christine Carbonello (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped
in with 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Wellesley returns to action Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. against
NEWMAC opponent MIT.
