Tufts Edges Wellesley 56-51
WELLESLEY, MASS. – Trailing 45-42 with 6:58
remaining in the game, Tufts University used a 8-0 run to take a
five point lead at 50-45 with just over three minutes remaining,
and never looked back, to earn its fifth straight win, defeating
Wellesley 56-51 in a non-conference women's basketball match-up
Thursday at Wellesley. With the win, Tufts improves to 5-1 while
Wellesley drops to 5-4 overall.
Tufts used four points on a jumper and a lay-up from Jessica Powers
(Massapequa, N.Y.) in the decisive run.
Tufts, which had eight players in the scoring column, was led by
14 points from Kate Gluckman (Morrisville, Vermont) and 10 points
and a team-high seven rebounds from Powers.
Wellesley, hampered by 36.7% shooting from the field (18-for-49),
had two players in double-digits and was led by sophomore Bridget
Harris' (Newbury Park, Calif.) 16 points, six rebounds and three
steals while senior Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) chipped in with
a solid 12-point, seven-rebound, four-blocked shot performance.
Wellesley returns to action Saturday, January 11 at 2 p.m. against
Bates before hitting the road against Connecticut College and conference
opponent Babson.
