BRANDEIS WOMEN'S HOOPS DEFEATS WELLESLEY, 60-48

WELLESLEY, MASS. – Brandeis University junior center Danielle Fitzpatrick (Stratham, NH/Exter) scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to lead the Judges past visiting Wellesley College, 60-48, in a non-conference match-up in Auerbach Arena tonight.

Brandeis (3-0) scored the first eight points of the contest, six coming on Fitzpatrick lay-ups, and never trailed again. Wellesley got as close as four points at 21-17 with 3:57 remaining. A 9-2 Brandeis run to end the first half, highlighted by two acrobatic shots by sophomore guard Lisa Pritzlaff (Highland, NY/Highland), gave the Judges a 30-19 lead at the break. Brandeis outshot Wellesley, 47 percent to 29 percent in the first half.

Wellesley (1-2) got back to within five just over two minutes into the second stanza. A jumper by sophomore Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton) capped a 10-4 run by the Blue that cut the lead to 34-29. Back-to-back hoops by Brandeis junior forward Audra Lissell (Plympton, MA/Silver Lake Regional), including a rainbow 3-pointer pushed the lead back to 10 points at 41-31 with 12:35 on the clock, and the Judges never trailed by less than that the rest of the way.

Fitzpatrick's game-high 19 points came on seven-of-10 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Pritzlaff added 14 points and Lissell recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Brandeis. For Wellesley, sophomore forward Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury park) led the way with 17 points, eight boards and a game-high five assists. Senior center Kelly Grover (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Brandeis' win snapped a three-game losing streak in the series with Wellesley.
