Johnson and Carbonello Lead Wellesley Past Regis 81-39

WELLESLEY, MASS. – Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Christine Carbonello (Londonderry, N.H.) combined for 48 points to lead Wellesley, 2-2, past Regis 81-39, Tuesday at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Johnson connected on 10-of-15 shots, including a 5-for-7 mark from beyond the arc for a season-high 27 points while Carbonello chipped in with 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting.

Wellesley had four players in double-figures as Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, Calif.) had 13 points and seven rebounds and Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Up 32-22 at the half, Wellesley used an 18-5 run in the opening five minutes of the second stanza to take a commanding 51-29 lead with 14:30 remaining in the game. Carbonello connected on 12 points on three trifectas and a short jumper in the decisive run that was capped by a three-pointer from Johnson.

Regis managed just 17 points in the second half and was held scoreless for the first four minutes of the half until Caitlin Clark (Dudley, Mass.) finished a lay-up on an assist from Megan Powell (Holyoke, Mass.). Regis was bogged down 29 percent shooting from the floor (7-for-24) in the second half.

Cait Connolly (Weare, N.H.) paced Regis with 13 points while Evan Rufo (Arlington, Mass.) hit the nets for nine points on three three-point field goals.
