Springfield Sinks Wellesley 52-50
WELLESLEY, MASS. – Springfield's Kelly McOmber
(Woodbury, Conn.) netted the eventual game-winner, drilling a three-pointer
with 44 seconds remaining to give the Pride a 52-50 New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's basketball win over
Wellesley, Saturday at Springfield. With the win Springfield increases
its record to 14-4 and 3-1 in the NEWMAC.
Just seconds before, Wellesley's Bridget Harris (Newbury Park,
Calif.) connected on her second three-point field goal of the game,
to give Wellesley a 50-48 cushion - Wellesley's only lead of the
second half - with 59 seconds on the clock. Harris finished with
nine points and six rebounds.
Carah Dawe (N.Dighton, Mass.) who connected on a free throw with
12 seconds remaining for the final score, led the Pride with 13
points and four rebounds while McComber was the only other Springfield
player in double-digits with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Wellesley (7-7, 2-2) senior Christine Carbonello (Londonderry,
N.H.) netted a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for
the Blue, while Kelly Grover (Westbrook, Maine) had 15 points, a
game-high nine rebounds.
