Grover’s 1,000th career point came in the nick of time too as Wellesley (10-9) was clinging to a one-point lead, 57-56, with 36 seconds remaining.  Grover iced the front end of a one-and-one and then sunk the second attempt give Wellesley a three-point cushion at 59-56.  Grover scored her 1,003 and 1,004 career points just 14 second later, again connecting on two free throws sealing the win for Wellesley.

Trailing by 19 points early in the second half, Amherst (12-12) clawed its way back into the game outscoring Wellesley 28-9 over the opening 15 minutes to tie the game at 53 apiece with 4:40 remaining.

Barboza led the Amherst charge scoring 10 of her 17 points in the second half.  With the scored tied at 53 both teams traded missed baskets before Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) powered her way to a lay-up on a Harris assist to give Wellesley a 55-53 lead with 2:41 remaining.  Barboza brought the Jeff’s to within one at 55-54 but Grover answered with a short jumper on another Harris assist for a 57-54 lead with two minutes on the clock.  Farrell connected on her 11th point of the game to again bring Amherst to within one before Wellesley rattled off six consecutive free throws, four from Grover and two from Carbonello, to earn the win.
