COAST GUARD HALTS WELLESLEY 62-53

NEW LONDON, CONN. – Lis Bosma had 26 points, 16 of those in the second half, leading Coast Guard to a 62-53 win over Wellesley in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. Wellesley used an 11-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game 18-6 with 11:42 to go in the first half.The Bears responded with nine straight to cut the lead to 18-15 with 6:49 left in the first half.
 
Wellesley held a slim 22-21 advantage at the half, but Coast Guard's Jamie Russell (10 points), hit a three-pointer to open the scoring in the second half, as the Bears took their first lead of the game 24-22.
 
Coast Guard used an 11-2 spurt, capped by a Regina Dunn basket, to turn a 30-27 deficit into a 38-32 lead with 13:56 left in the game. With Coast Guard leading 43-39, Bosma had back-to-back baskets as the Bears took an eight-point lead with five minutes left and never looked back.  Mary Arvidson added 12 points for Coast Guard (9-13, 4-7) which was playing without starting point guard Kira Peterson, who missed the game with a sprained ankle. Holly Bucheit led the Bears with 12 rebounds.
 
Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) led Wellesley (9-10, 5-6) with 18 points while Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
