Wellesley Drops Wheaton 55-40

Norton, Mass. – Junior forward Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, Calif.) came off of the bench and scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Wellesley College to a 55-40 win against Wheaton in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s basketball match-up, Tuesday at Wheaton.
 
Up by one at halftime at 22-21, Wellesley shot a blazing 52 percent from the field on 13-of-25 shooting in the second half to break open a close game, outscoring Wheaton 33-19 in the second stanza. With the win Wellesley improves to 5-6 overall and earns its first conference victory of the season to stand at 1-2 in the NEWMAC, while Wheaton falls to 3-8 and 0-3 dropping its fourth straight decision.
 
First-year Laura Jasinksi (Amherst, Mass.) netted 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and Kristin Doeberl (Redding, Conn) chipped in with nine points, four rebounds and three steals for the Blue. Taryn Brassill (Holyoke, Mass.) paced Wheaton with 15 points and eight rebounds, both game-highs, while Kate Williams (Portland, Oregon) added eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
