Wellesley, Mass. – Holding a slim one-point advantage at 25-24 entering into the second half of play, Springfield found its shooting touch en route to a 63-46 win over Wellesley College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference basketball game, Saturday.

Connecting on nine of its first 13 shots in the opening minutes of the second half, Springfield outscored Wellesley 23-10 to take a commanding 48-36 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. Springfield shot an outstanding 54.8 percent from the field in the second half hitting 17-of-31 shots and ended the game with a 41.2 field goal percentage.

Springfield’s Katie Trice (Concord, N.H.) led all scorers with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting and collected a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Pride’s Kelly McOmber (Woodbury, Conn.) added 14 points, five steals and three assists while Kacey Wunsch (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped in with a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.  McOmber scored all 14 of her points in the second half, including nine points in the decisive Springfield (10-6, 5-1) run.

Wellesley cut the lead to eight points with nine minutes remaining on quick lay-ups from Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) and Erin Johnson (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.),  but it wasn't enough as McOmber followed lay-ups by Erin Schwartz (Mildford, Conn.) and LaToya Franklin (Latham, N.Y.) with back-to-back three-pointers to put Springfield up 57-44.

Wellesley (6-8, 2-3 NEWMAC) placed three players in double-figures led by a 12-point, five-rebound effort from first-year Sefi Adasi (Rockville, Md.) Adasi connected on 6-of-7 field goal attempts and was aided by excellent passing from Johnson.  Johnson ended the game with 10 points and four assists, while Doeberl added a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
