Zurek Scores 21 To Lead Bates To 81-60 Win Over Wellesley

Lewiston, Maine. – Olivia Zurek scored 21 points on 9-for-12 shooting to lead Bates College to an 81-60 win over Wellesley in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Tuesday at Bates.

Zurek added seven rebound, five steals and three assists and notched her second consecutive 20-point performance in her career.

Bates held a 17-13 lead midway through the first half but took a commanding 16-point lead on the heels of a 16-4 run with less than five minutes remaining until the break. Wellesley’s Kristin Doeberl (Redding, Conn.) cut the lead to eight on a lay-up with 12:30 remaining in the contest but Bates’ Annie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) connected on a lay-up of her own on the next trip down the court to give the Bobcats a double-digit lead which they would hold for the rest of the game.

Heather Taylor (Nobleboro, Maine) and Lauren DuBois (Beverly, Mass.) each scored 16 points a piece Bates (6-4).

Doeberl paced Wellesley with a season-high 27 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field and a 7-for-8 performance from the charity stripe. Doeberl also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Despite similar shooting performance, with Wellesley shooting 43.3 percent to Bates’ 44.4 percent, the Blue were hampered by 32 turnovers while giving up 18 offensive rebounds to Bates.
