WELLESLEY RUNS PAST REGIS 72-39
Wellesley, Mass. – Wellesley College used
a concerted team effort and a balanced offensive attack with all
nine players in the box-score scoring en route to a 72-39 victory
over Regis College in a non-conference women’s basketball
tilt, Tuesday at Regis. With the win Wellesley snaps a two-game
skid and evens its record to 2-2 while Regis drops to 1-3.
Kristin Doeberl (Redding, Conn.) paced Wellesley with a season-high
15 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field while first-year Alex
Allukian (Boston, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points for her first
double-digit scoring effort of her career. Sophomore point guard
Catie Romasco (Worcester, Mass.) added eight points and two assists
while three players netted seven points a piece for the Blue who
shot 38 percent from the field for the game and a blistering 47.1
percent (16-34) in the second half.
Regis’ Erin Campbell and Cait Connolly led the Pride with
double-digit scoring efforts. Campbell totaled 15 points on
7-for-12 shooting while Connolly connected for a double-double on
12 points and 10 rebounds.
With just a six-point lead heading into the second half at 24-16,
Wellesley broke open the game with a 13-6 run in the opening five
minutes of the second stanza as Wellesley outscored the Pride 48-21
in the half. Doeberl netted seven of her team-high 15 points
in the run.
Wellesley held a decisive 45-32 edge on the boards which included
19 offensive rebounds. First-year Sefi Adasi (Rockville, Md.) grabbed
10 rebounds while Hadley Diest (Otsego, Mich.) collected a career-high
nine boards for Wellesley.
