WELLESLEY, MA -- KELLY GROVER (Westbrook, ME) scored a team-high 14 points as No. 2 Wellesley College advanced to the semifinal round of the ECAC Women's New England Championship with a 56-49 win over No. 7 MIT, Wednesday evening at Towne Fieldhouse.
Wellesley (21-4) will face No. 3 Plymouth State Saturday at No. 1 Amherst College in the semifinals. Plymouth defeated No. 6 Colby Sawyer 83-80. MIT closes the season with an 18-8 record.
MEGAN DAUGHTY (Manchester, CT) paced the Engineers with a game-high 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting. CRISTINA ESTRADA (Bogota, Colombia) added 11 for MIT.
Wellesley led by nine, 32-23, at the half before MIT made a nice comeback in the second half to pull within one, 47-46, after an Estrada basket with 4:34 remaining. Wellesley, however, would finish the game on a 9-3 run that included a 3-point field goal by JANE GOODING (Loudonville, OH) with 2:34 remaining.
