Endicott Edges Wellesley, 58-55, in Blue's Season Opener

BEVERLY, MA - Endicott sophomore guard Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) scored a game-high 19 points, as the Gulls battled their way to a hard fought, 58-55, win over Wellesley College in the opening round of the Endicott College Tip Off Tournament Friday night.

The Gulls were able to put together an impressive first half, scoring 32 points while shooting 4-7 from three-point range. The Blue hung with the home team, only trailing by four at the break. Endicott and Wellesley went toe-to-toe in the second half, with Blue sophomore forward Jessica Duff (Milton Abingdon,UK/Saline High) leading the way for the visiting team. Duff shot 7-11 from the field while scoring a team-high, 16 points on the night.

Although outscored in the second half, 27-26, Endicott was able to hold on for the 58-55 victory. Endicott's Nicole Young (Rockland, MA/Cardinal Spellman) complimented the Gulls offense down low as she scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds. Also having a strong game for the Gulls was forward Sara Doherty(Somerville, MA/Arlington Catholic). The 5-8 junior scored six points and dished out six assists in the win.

Duff's 16 points led Wellesley along with sophomores Courtney Ritcher (Sinking Spring, Pa.) who chipped in 10 points and Julia Thomas (Concord, Calif.), who added a team-high eight rebounds and added six points.

Wellesley will face Suffolk on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Blue's second game of the Endicott College Tip Off.
