Amherst Drops Wellesley, 63-51

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College shot 49 percent from the floor en route to a 63-51 win over Wellesley College in a non-conference game Thursday night.

Wellesley (4-3) is now off until Saturday, January 5 when it travels to Bates to open the new year.

While Amherst was hot from the field - 52 percent in the first half alone - Wellesley was equally cool, shooting just 34 percent for the game. Junior Christine Carbonello scored a team-high nine points to lead Wellesley, which did not have a player in double figures. Senior Alessa Podolak added eight.

Wellesley outrebounded Amherst 35-34 and held an impressive 15-7 edge on the offensive glass. Junior point guard Kate Lyren, who scored seven points and passed out three assists, paced Wellesley with seven boards.
